My big brother has JHD
HDYO has more information about HD available for young people, parents and professionals on our site:
Q. “My big brother has jhd will that mean I will to?” Seth, 13, America
A. No, just because your brother has JHD, it doesn’t mean that you will too. I am assuming that you are at 50% risk (check out HDYO’s being at risk section) and if so, whether or not your brother has developed symptoms of HD or JHD doesn’t change this. Also, HD affects people in different ways, both in what age they develop symptoms at and which symptoms they develop - this is true even within the same family.
Sometimes when there is someone with HD or JHD in the family, it can bring extra worries and challenges. If you are worried about anything, it is important that you try and find someone you can speak to about these and share these worries with. You could try talking to other young people on the HDYO Forum.
