How many people are affected?

Q. How many people are affected?

Madison, 14, USA

Ask a question

A. Hi Madison,

Good question! In the US there are estimated to be around 30,000 people with HD. But many feel this is probably an underestimate. New research suggests that around 1 in 8,000 people in the Western world (Europe and North America) have HD. It used to be thought it was 1 in 10,000. But we are seeing more cases of HD now due to better support and medical knowledge.

Take care,
