Can a 2 month old baby have HD?

Q. Is it known for a 2 month old baby to have HD?

Ronda, Young Adult, USA

Ask a question

A. Dear Ronda,

Many thanks for your question. As far as I am aware, there have not been any reported cases of babies with symptoms of HD at the age of 2 months. Onset of symptoms even later on in childhood is quite uncommon, and only around 10% of individuals with HD are diagnosed under the age of 20 (termed juvenile Huntington’s disease, JHD - this HDYO article has some more information about JHD that you may find helpful).

I was unsure if your question was regarding your own baby, or someone you know? If there are any concerns regarding the baby’s health, it would be advisable for the baby to be assessed by a paediatrician or specialist, as they would be able to consider whether any investigations are needed, depending on the symptoms.

I hope this helps answer your question, and please do not hesitate to get back to us if you have any further queries.

Best wishes

Bill
