My mom has stopped eating, what should I do?

Q. My mom has Huntington since 15 years, she is completely bed ridden, since few days she has stopped eating anything, what should i do?

A. Hi Khadija,

Thanks for your message. I think there are lots of possible reasons that your mom has stopped eating. She may have lost her appetite, or be afraid of swallowing. She may also be unhappy or depressed. These are just a few of the many possible reasons for not eating and drinking.

That means that some kind of healthcare person has to have a look at her and examine her soon. She may also need to be given food and drink by some other method (through a feeding tube) until it’s clear what the problem is.
