Can paranoia be the first symptom of HD?

HDYO has more information about HD available for young people, parents and professionals on our site:

Q. Hello. My husbands father has HD, and my husband does not want to be tested. He is now approaching the age of 40 and have no visible symptoms. However, I think he is showing some paranoia or at least extremely careful behavior concerning electronic devices and fear of being watched somehow.

I know this could have many explanations, but still I wonder..

Could paranoia be the first symptom of HD?

Hope you can help:-)

A. Hello

Thank you for sending in your question to HDYO, I think you have answered your own question in that these symptoms could be a number of things, but yes it also could be a symptom of HD as behavioural changes do happen and can lead to paranoia or hallucinations at times. The only way to find out would be to visit a doctor/neurologist in your area for a check-up.

If you need any help with this let us know.
